City to keep "plus one" coverage

Ward 1 Alderman Ben Carver's motion following executive session to remove the "plus-one" benefit from city employee health plans failed to receive a second during a called Starkville Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday evening at City Hall.
The board unanimously approved adding the plus-one adult plan, as well as an employee-plus-children plan to its health benefits during its Sept. 2 meeting.

SSD, OCSD to seek bids on projects jointly

Starkville School District will look to advertise for bids alongside Oktibbeha County School District as both districts continue preparations for their July consolidation.
After a lengthy executive session, the SSD Board of Trustees voted to seek bids jointly with OCSD for a $550,000 construction project to expand Starkville High School's cafeteria.

Fire department uses Evans Hall for fire training prior to demolition

Evans Hall’s life as a dormitory may be over, but Starkville Fire Department is still getting some use out of the old Mississippi State University building before its demolition.
Starkville Fire Department Training Officer Charles Yarbrough said the department is using the building to run training scenarios.

Remembering Jack Cristil: Voice of Bulldogs passes away at 88

“You can wrap it in Maroon and White.”

That phrase gave chills to so many Mississippi State Bulldog fans and it made Jack Cristil famous, not only in Mississippi, but around the nation. The longtime “Voice of the Bulldogs” passed away Sunday at the age of 88 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo of complications from kidney disease and cancer after an extend illness.

Pulley OKs renovations for campuses

ktibbeha County School District approved the final plans and budget for $2.2 million dollars’ worth of renovations for its elementary school at its monthly meeting Monday.

The meeting, which is normally scheduled for the first Monday of each month, was postponed one week due to Labor Day.
