Senate OKs amendment to school bill

March 12, 2014

The Mississippi Senate unanimously passed an amended version of House Bill 833, the Mississippi House of Representatives’ updated Oktibbeha County school consolidation bill, on Tuesday.

The House passed HB 833 in February on a 117-0 vote with three representatives voting present and two absent.

Starkville man killed in FedEx truck wreck

March 12, 2014

A Starkville man is dead after a Tuesday morning accident on Highway 45 in Lowndes County.

A Mississippi Highway Patrol press release said 49-year-old Undra Williams was killed after the FedEx delivery truck he was driving swerved off the road and into a ditch embankment.

Sheriff’s department officers shed pounds

Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department kicked the year off with a weight-loss challenge and now, a few months later, participants are seeing results.

Sheriff Steve Gladney said the 22 participants for the voluntary challenge weighed in on Jan. 6 to start the competition, then weighed in again on March 7. All together, participants lost 238 pounds during the 2-month challenge.
