On March 18, 2008, Anita Lindsey’s worst nightmare became reality when her daughter, 22-year-old Quanesha Lindsey, was shot and killed in the street in front of her home on Pecan Acres. Since then, she’s been working to honor her daughter’s memory and restore a positive sense of community for residents of Starkville with a Community Day celebration.

Hester to compete in state Distinguished Young Women 2014 program this week

Bell Hester had no intention of pursuing a title in the Distinguished Young Women of Starkville program, much less the Distinguished Young Women of Mississippi. Yet on Thursday, she’ll be one of 33 girls competing in preliminary rounds at the Temple Theatre in Meridian for a chance at more than $40,000 in scholarships.

Murray, Terrill reach top 10: Miss Amory Railroad Festival takes crown in Miss Mississippi pageant

Two local competitors reached the top 10 in the Miss Mississippi Pageant Saturday night in Vicksburg, and judges ultimately awarded the crown and a trip to the Miss America pageant to Miss Amory Railroad Festival Chelsea Rick.
