Local sentenced for sexual battery

Alexander Brooks, 19, of Oktibbeha County, received a 20-year sentence in the Mississippi Department of Corrections with 10 years suspended and a $631 fine after he pleaded guilty recently in Oktibbeha County Circuit Court to sexual battery.

Pottery turns to livelihood for Raye

It started in 2002, when a friend talked Kay Raye into buying a kiln. Four years later, what started as a hobby became a full-time job for Raye.

Raye, a local artist, had worked at a print shop for 25 years. After she began making pottery pieces, she realized she could make money off her pieces and quit work to begin Kay Raye Pottery.
