An Oktibbeha County grand jury has opted not to indict a former First Baptist Church Creative Learning Center employee on allegations that she drugged two infants that were left in her care at the facility.

Murder trial begins

Brian Holliman’s second murder trial began Monday in Oktibbeha County Circuit Court as the case’s first witness — the deceased victim’s sister— opened testimony.

Shelter kill totals drop

In 2008, the Oktibbeha County Humane Society and Starkville Animal Shelter maintained about a 40 percent adoption rate, leaving some 60 percent of animals taken in to be euthanized. However, Anita Howard, shelter manager, said with the help of some new initiatives, that number has not only flipped, but grew to an 80 percent adoption rate in 2012.
