OCSD moves funds, hires new personnel

June 19, 2013

Oktibbeha County School District approved transferring funds to the district maintenance account and the hiring of several new personnel at a called meeting on Tuesday.

Conservator Margie Pulley approved OCSD’s transfer of $150,000 from 16th Section interest funds to the district maintenance fund.

Summertime tends to be the toughest time to obtain blood donations, according to Rosalin Johnson with United Blood Services, but it’s the time where blood is in most demand.

SSD to hold budget hearing

June 18, 2013

Starkville School District will hear comments and concerns from the public regarding its proposed 2013-14 budget at a public hearing at 6 p.m. today at the Greensboro Center.

Each attendee will be given a three-minute limit for addressing the board.

Maben resolves election issue

June 18, 2013

Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann’s office listed Maben on Friday among 47 Mississippi cities that had not turned in their certifications of election results by the June 11 deadline, but the office confirmed Monday that Maben had turned in results and averted court intervention.

Aldermen to hear Parks audit report

The last meeting of the term for the outgoing Starkville Board of Aldermen promises to be a heavy one. Among the items for consideration, City Clerk Taylor Adams will give a report outlining the financial health and viability of the City Parks Commission within the current budget.

Gaskin files lawsuit in Ward 4 primary

Six weeks after initial results from the Ward 4 Democratic primary designated Jason Walker victorious in claiming the alderman’s seat over challenger John Gaskin by a mere four votes, the matter is finding its way to circuit court.

If there’s one thing 38-year-old LaToya Weaver has learned in the last eight years, it’s that patience and determination can open virtually any door. By the end of December, Weaver will realize her lifelong dream: graduating from Mississippi State University with an interdisciplinary studies degree that will allow her to coach basketball.
