Heritage Museum brings seashell exhibit

Starkville residents may not have to travel far to get a taste of the beach this summer, thanks to a new exhibit at the Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum.

The seashell-themed exhibit, which features eclectic items such as a lamp and miniature car made of shells, will be open all summer and coincide with a museum scavenger hunt volunteer coordinator Diana Crabtree created.

Starkville Police Department said on Tuesday the DNA from William Vail does not match the DNA profile of the perpetrator of a double homicide from Sept. 3, 1990.

Aldermen appoint new prosecutor

Starkville Board of Aldermen appointed Caroline Moore as the city’s new prosecutor Tuesday during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting. She will be compensated $50,000 per year for the position.

NPS gives Mill project green light

The National Park Service expressed its positive opinion of the long-discussed hotel/conference center project at the Cooley Center on Tuesday, which project leaders said would help it advance to the next round of planning and implementation.

Wiseman wins

June 5, 2013

After a hard-fought campaign in both camps, Democratic incumbent Parker Wiseman claimed victory over Republican challenger Dan Moreland on Tuesday.

Counting absentee and machine votes citywide, Wiseman took 2,299 votes to Moreland's 1,817.
