Most of the elementary and high school classrooms in Starkville may have emptied for the summer, but class was in session in other locales across the city Thursday, filled with children who refused to stop learning.

Starkville High School student attends Summer Youth Institute

Starkville High School junior Catherine Buffington was one of 28 students selected to attend the Summer Youth Institute hosted by the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation at the University of Mississippi.

The Summer Youth Institute is a nine-day camp for rising high school sophomores and juniors that focuses on leadership and community building, as well as civil rights history.
