Walker emerges as 1st qualifier for Ward 4’s election

Mississippi State University landscape architecture associate professor Jason Walker qualified Thursday to run as a Democrat for Ward 4’s alderman seat in this year’s municipal election.

Walker is a member of the Starkville Planning and Zoning Commission. He is the first candidate to qualify for the Ward 4 seat.

Chism: School merger bill passes House Education Committee

State Rep. Gary Chism confirmed an Oktibbeha County school consolidation bill with several amendments to the potential district's governance passed the Miss. House Education Committee today.

Miss. H.B. 716, as filed by Republican Rep. Toby Barker, would consolidate Starkville School District and Oktibbeha County School District into the Starkville Consolidated School District in 2015.

JACKSON — The Mississippi House voted Tuesday to block public access to information about state-issued permits for people to carry concealed weapons.

House Bill 485, backed by the National Rifle Association, passed 101-18. It moves for more debate in the Senate, where a similar bill has been filed.
