The Starkville Board of Aldermen unanimously approved to hire Taylor Adams as the city’s new director of finance at its meeting Tuesday night.
Adams’ first day on the job will be Aug. 1. His salary will be $73,500.

Though school is still out for summer, more than three dozen local children are in session for a different kind of class.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A gunman who fired into a crowded downtown bar near the University of Alabama campus and wounded nearly a dozen people was taken into custody Tuesday, police said.
Sgt. Brent Blakely would not release any details about how the man was apprehended, but said police planned a 1 p.m CDT news conference.
