Preservationists accelerate plans

The Starkville Historic Preservation made minor adjustments Tuesday to a new draft of historic preservation guidelines and called for a special meeting Aug. 13 to compete the guideline evaluation process before the grant paying for the guidelines’ creation expires.

Each summer the Mississippi State Bulldogs take their skills across the country to play summer baseball in a variety of leagues.

The goal is to hone their craft and return to Starkville a more complete player.

This summer Hunter Renfroe has certainly made the most of his opportunity by turning in a history-making performance.

Simpson becomes Mississippi State's 13th football commitment

Mississippi State now has 13 commitments for the 2013 signing class with the most recent commitment of defensive end Trent Simpson of Oxford, Ala.

Simpson, who made his commitment public on Friday, actually pledged to be a Bulldog last week.

New director of sanitation office sought

Starkville is in the process of advertising for a new director of sanitation and environmental services after the person who held that position stepped down earlier this month.

Starkville Personnel Officer Randy Boyd confirmed Sharon Boyd, who had been employed with the city since November 1992, left her position and has moved out of Starkville.

C Spire request fails at meeting

The Starkville Board of Adjustments and Appeals rejected C Spire Wireless’s request for variances from city laws needed to erect a 100-foot cellular tower, opening a dialogue about possible changes to those laws at its meeting Wednesday afternoon.

SPD charges La. fugitive with burglaries

A fugitive from Lafayette, La. is in custody at Oktibbeha County Jail and charged with four counts of burglary and one count of auto burglary.

Excel By 5 bash readies students for school year

The Excel By 5 Oktibbeha County Coalition will hold its annual Back to School Bash and Health Fair Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Starkville Sportsplex, bringing together more than 50 organizations and service groups to help parents and students prepare for a new school year.

Bulldogs, Tar Heels meet again on court in Hawaii

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have known for a while they would make a return trip to Hawaii.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs learned they would match up with the Tar Heels of North Carolina in the first round of the 2012 EA SPORTS Maui Invitational on Nov. 19. 

Youth-Adult Sportsman League helps sport

Bowling is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States.

Starkville is making sure that trend continues with the Youth-Adult Sportsman League that has been held at Bulldog Lanes this summer.

The league started in late May and runs until next week. There are seven teams competing comprised of high school bowlers from Starkville and East Webster. Each team has one adult.
