In a way Saturday was a historic night at Newell-Grissom Gymnasium as two Mississippi State head coaches got notable victories. One for a career and one for a day.
Five years ago today, Starkville was battening down the hatches as Hurricane Katrina churned northward after making a devastating landfall along the Mississippi-Louisiana line on the Gulf Coast.
â€śIâ€™m overwhelmed,â€ť said Dr. Charles Moore, after being recognized Saturday by a crowd of applauders for his service in the Second World War.
â€śI had no idea it would be this special.â€ť
Another incumbent member of the Oktibbeha County School District Board of Trustees on Friday qualified to seek a new term.
The funeral for Alyce H. Smith will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Hickory Springs Baptist Church Poplarville with burial in Smith Cemetery. Brother Neal Breeland will officiate at the service.
The funeral for Russell Wilson, a U.S. Army veteran, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Saint Paul Church of God in Christ in Surrency, Ga.
