Unity Park plaques unveiled at local civil rights ceremony

Starkville’s Unity Park plaques paying tribute to local and national civil rights leaders were unveiled on Monday. The unveiling culminates a process that began in 2011, when the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors approved construction of the park.

Supervisors to hear update on federal storm shelter grant

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors will hear an update on the acceptance status of a potential county storm shelter at its meeting this evening.
The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Oktibbeha County courthouse board room.

Jeffie Boatman Hester passed away January 19, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center - Eupora. She was 88. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Eldon Hester; parents, William and Sallie Boatman; sister, Sue B. Hare; and brother, Billy Boatman.

SHS hands McComb first loss

CLINTON – The Starkville High School Yellowjackets pulled off what was probably the biggest surprise at the Rumble in the South Tournament on Monday in beating previously unbeaten and defending Class 4A State champion McComb 59-53.
The event was played on the campus of Mississippi College.

Volunteers gain confidence in soccer with draw against Raiders

As far as record there was no win or loss added on Monday during the Starkville Academy soccer match, but the Volunteers gained confidence within the team after a 1-1 tie with Lamar School.  

Sullivan gets in kicks as member of Jackets

It might be difficult for some young athletes to transition from one sport to another.
That's not the case when it comes to Michael Sullivan at Starkville High School.
Sullivan has made the successful move as the kickoff special and short field goal kicker for the Yellowjackets to back line in soccer.
Both soccer and football involved kicking, but Sullivan says there is a variation.

Process continues for Ray's Bulldogs

It's all about the process right now for Mississippi State head coach Rick Ray and his basketball squad.
The Bulldogs stand at 8-9 overall and 1-3 in Southeastern Conference play, but Ray feels like his team is making strides in the right direction.
He just wants them to focus on what the coaches are putting in front of them every day.
