Mississippi State hopes to take a big step this week as it plays UAB at home.
The Bulldogs opened the season with a 49-0 win over Southern Miss, and there were some miscues and jitters in game one for MSU. Head coach Dan Mullen always likes to see improvement, but the improvement from week one to week two is crucial.

West Point working to get back where it wants to be

However, West Point head coach Chris Chambless can see things beginning to come together for his team.

A Starkville man is in custody after an alleged weekend shooting put a male victim in the hospital.
Starkville police officers arrested 26-year-old Justin Rodrecus Vaughn, of 264 Reverend Ware Road, Sunday on suspicion of aggravated assault after the reported shooting.

Oktibbeha County may reach out to help Noxubee County with roadwork after the Board of Supervisors took a proposal under advisement at its Tuesday morning meeting.
Oktibbeha County Road Manager Victor Collins brought the proposal, which would see county road workers grind about 2.5 miles of Noxubee County paved road into a gravel road, before the board Tuesday.
