Zuppardo joins MSU basketball program

Mississippi State head men's basketball coach Rick Ray announced the signing of Jones County Junior College big man Johnny Zuppardo on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-9, 235-pound Kiln native chose the Bulldogs over Washington, Wichita State and Tulane.

Per Nilsson has rejuvenated a Mississippi State tennis program in his six years as the head coach.
Nilsson takes his Bulldogs into a place today where they haven't found success since he was a player at State.

Lady Jackets sharpen skills for state golf event

Starkville High School girls golfers got the opportunity sharpen their skills on Wednesday afternoon and compete against Class III, Region 2 competition at the same time.
With already a ticket punched to the state tournament, the Lady Yellowjackets took to the Mississippi State Golf Course and finished second to Tupelo 187-226.

Starkville boys have golf season come to end

Four teams out of Class 6A, Region 1, District 2 qualified for the state golf tournament on Wednesday.
Starkville High School just missed being on of those squads.
The Yellowjackets shot a 353 as a team and were edged out of fourth place by Grenada, which finished 11 strokes better with a 342.

Antriece Carter, 51, died Friday, April 4, 2014 in Detroit, Michigan.
 
Visitation will be Thursday, April 17, 2014; 1-6:00 p.m. at West Memorial Chapel, Starkville, Mississippi. 
 
Graveside services and burial will be held at at Fox Cemetery, Starkville, Mississippi.
  
West Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
 

Reaping the benefits: Bulldogs, seniors embrace change, helps WNIT run

Mississippi State coach Vic Schaefer knew if the women's basketball team was going to have success in 2013-14, then there was going to have to be a change.
After his first season where the Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 13-17, Schaefer knew something was going to have to be different and he addressed that with his team immediately following the season.

Starkville aldermen on Tuesday approved four separate motions in their meeting at City Hall to gather information and request proposals for outsourcing functions of Sanitation and Environmental Services.

Sexual battery suspect arrested

Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Sturgis resident Monday afternoon on suspicion of sexual battery.

Deputies arrested 19-year-old Nathaniel Hatter for an alleged case of sexual battery against a female victim.

SPD arrests man in domestic violence

April 16, 2014

Officers arrested a Starkville man Monday night on suspicion of aggravated domestic violence, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after he reportedly beat his wife and locked her outside their apartment.

Starkville Police Department arrested 23-year-old Carlos Ware at 10:49 p.m. Monday at his home in the Brooksville Gardens apartment complex at 305 Everglade Avenue 1D.
