Voter registration deadline nears for general election

October 1, 2014

Noon Saturday marks the deadline to register to vote in time for the November general election.
The Oktibbeha county circuit clerk’s office, located in the Oktibbeha County Courthouse Annex on Main Street, will remain open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. through the week and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday to accept voter registration forms.

Clifton James Brooks, Jr. of  Starkville, MS, 61, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in Jackson, Mississippi.
Funeral services will  be held 1:00 P.M., Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Mount Peiler Missionary Baptist Church, Starkville, MS with Reverend Dr. Charlie F. Barnes, Sr., officiating.

Center of attention: MSU's Beckwith ready to step in for Day

The last time Ben Beckwith played center in an actual game was the year 2008.
He was a junior at Benton Academy then, but he will get another crack at center, as Mississippi State will be without starter Dillon Day for one game. Day is suspended for No. 12 MSU's Saturday game against No. 6 Texas A&M.
Beckwith has started all four games this season at a guard position.

Lady Jackets sweep defending state champs in volleyball

The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets were able to break out the brooms once again on Tuesday night.
Starkville pulled off the three-set volleyball sweep of defending state champion Southaven 25-15, 25-20, 25-21.

SHS beats Columbus in softball

The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets made sure senior night for Jocitta Buchanan was a success and recorded an 8-2 victory over rival Columbus at home Tuesday night.
Six runs in the first three innings helped the Lady Jackets take control of the game early.

Starkville 8th grade Jackets get win to remain unbeaten

Steve Denson was a very excited 8th grade head football coach on Tuesday night.
After Starkville's 14-0 victory over Louisville, Denson surrounded his Yellowjackets around him and had nothing but good things to say.
Starkville was able to survive a battle of unbeaten teams to remain at the top of the conference with a record of 5-0, which was the source of Denson's joy.
