MSU anticipates great experience during Europe trip

Many don't get the opportunity to take a trip to France or Belgium.
That's what the Mississippi State women's basketball team gets to do next week and head coach Vic Schaefer is going to make sure the Bulldogs enjoy the experience.
Even though basketball games will be played and MSU plans to win those, Schaefer said the visit to Europe is about so much more.

SA Invitational offers Lady Vols experience

Starkville Academy's fast pitch softball team knows this, which is why today the Lady Volunteers will welcome teams from the surrounding area to the Starkville Sportsplex for the Starkville Academy Invitational.

Mississippi State University officials have identified a student who was found dead in an apartment Thursday afternoon as 21-year-old Andrew William Bollacker.
Bollacker was a junior accounting major from Senatobia.

Committee: No pay raises for city employees

Starkville’s Budget and Audit Committee will not recommend raises for city employees for next fiscal year, but it will ask the Board of Aldermen to support the city continuing to pay 100 percent of employee health insurance costs.

Local leaders convene for strategic planning session

Representatives from the city of Starkville, Oktibbeha County, the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, Starkville School District and Mississippi State University spent Thursday afternoon together in Renasant Bank’s community room to continue discussions as they develop and implement strategic plans.

Willie Swain, 84, died Thursday, July 24, 2014 in Jackson, Mississippi.
Funeral services will  be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Peter’s Rock Temple Church of God In Christ, Starkville, MS with Reverend Ryan French, Officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 from 1:00 P.M.- 6:00 P.M.  at West Memorial Funeral Home, Starkville, Mississippi.

Coy Richard Sorenson, 21, died on Saturday, July 26, 2014.  Visitation will be Friday, August 1, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko.  Funeral services will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Jordan Funeral Home Chapel.  Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.  Rev. Jeffrey Hutchison will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Macclenny, Fla.
