VIDEO: SEC Commissioner Mike Slive To Retire In 2015

At a Tuesday press conference, Mike Slive announced that he will step down as commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, effective July 31, 2015. Slive is the SEC’s seventh commissioner and has held the position since 2002, yet he told SECSports.com that recent health concerns have made him reevaluate his priorities.

BEING NO. 1/Mullen wants Bulldogs to stay focused

Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen said he would have voted the Bulldogs No. 1 six weeks ago.
The Bulldogs were unranked in the preseason, but now that doesn’t matter.
MSU became the No. 1 team on Sunday in both the Associated Press and Amway Coaches poll. This is the first time the Bulldogs have been the top ranked team in the country in both polls.

Power restored at SHS

Starkville High School had to cancel classes Tuesday as its personnel waited for Starkville Electric Department to restore its electricity after Monday’s severe thunderstorm, but principal David Baggett confirmed power is now restored and class is back in session today.

P&Z Commission moves proposed rezones forward

The Starkville Planning and Zoning Commission voted 4-1 to recommend multiple rezonings needed for the Golden Triangle Development LINK’s planned $10 million Innovation District, despite opposition from residents of properties near the development’s 326-acre site.
Starkville’s Board of Aldermen will ultimately consider the commission’s recommendations for final approval.

SPD investigates thefts of vehicles

Starkville police detectives are investigating what they are calling a rash of stolen vehicles and attempts to steal vehicles.
A police department press release said the theft and attempted thefts occurred on the weekends of Oct. 3 and 10, and detectives believe the suspects may have chosen those dates because of high traffic in town for Mississippi State football games.

Cedar Bluff, MS – Mr. Joseph Michael  "Joey"  Raines, 42, passed away on October 14, 2014 at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.  Joey was born January 6, 1972, in West Point the son of Donald Roy and Elizabeth Taylor Raines.  As a young man, he attended Calvary Baptist Church in West Point.
