Bulldogs battle right to the end

Brett Pirtle ran down to first base for the last time in a Mississippi State jersey with just one thought in mind. 
Throw the ball at me, not at the first baseman.
"I was just hoping he would throw it and hit me in the back of the helmet, but it didn't happen," Pirtle said. "That's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes."

It was a nice thought.
If the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels could have met in a NCAA super regional for the right to go to the College World Series, the level of interest in those games would have been off the charts.

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs were in a great position to win a regional and move onto a super regional.
They started the Lafayette (La.) Regional 2-0 and needed just one win to advance to the next round. The Bulldogs didn't get that win.

Monday elimination situation does not go the way of MSU

LAFAYETTE, La. – Mississippi State had its previous four Monday elimination games in a regional turn out fine. 
That was not the case this year.
MSU lost 5-3 to Louisiana-Lafayette in the if necessary championship game on Monday to lose the Lafayette (La.) Regional. 
The Bulldogs won Monday championship games in regionals in 1985, 90, 97 and 2013.
