PEARL – Wes Rea needed something good to happen when he stepped to the plate with two runners on and two outs in the sixth inning.
The Mississippi State junior first baseman delivered with a two-run double down the third base line to give the Bulldogs a lead. A lead they never surrendered.

Auditor orders clerk to repay $35K

A recently-released report from the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor has found that Oktibbeha County Chancery Clerk Monica Banks needs to remit more than $35,000 owed in excess fees to the county’s general fund.

Chancery clerk offices collect fees from mortgages, warranty deeds from across the county, open court cases, case filings, copy fees and a percentage from delinquent taxes.

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors granted a pay raise to county Road Manager Victor Collins and officially set County Administrator Emily Garrard’s salary at a Monday evening meeting in the courthouse.

Traditionally, Starkville Rotary Club meetings end with a ring of the club’s bell and a mass recitation of the club’s motto: “Service Above Self — He profits most who serves best.” But on Monday night, at the club’s annual banquet, Rotary Club President Brent Fountain opted to break with tradition for a special occasion, leading Rotarians in a verse of “Happy Birthday” for the club itself.

Change in air as SHS begins spring football practice

The Starkville Yellowjackets broke the final huddle on the first day of spring practice Monday with the words "hard work."
According to head coach Jamie Mitchell, the Jackets can't afford to approach each day any other way.
Starkville has 20 total practices this spring and Mitchell plans to use each one wisely.
