Offutt swinging hot bat for State softball

Mississippi State senior outfielder Jessica Offutt has taken the advice of the softball coaching staff and it is beginning to pay off.
In the last two games for the Bulldogs, Offutt has gone 5-of-7 at the plate for a batting average of .714. She has six hits in the last 10 at-bats over a three-game stretch to bat .600.

Williamson shows leadership for SCS

Williamson put in six years with the Lady Cougars and developed into the type of leader that coach Cynthia Jefferson could count on this season.

Winona takes 8-1 victory over Starkville in softball

While most of the game featured strong pitching and quick outs, a six-run inning by the Winona Lady Tigers made all the difference as they defeated Starkville Lady Yellowjackets 8-1 on Thursday.

Maudine Hendricks Oswalt

Maudine Hendricks Oswalt, 95, of Starkville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 after a brief illness.

She was born October 26, 1918 in Oktibbeha County, MS, in the Self Creek Community, and she married Eldridge Benton Oswalt on March 12, 1937. She and E.B. had been married for 69 years at the time of his passing.

Charles Reed Morgan

Charles Reed Morgan, 71, passed away on April 9, 2014 at his residence in Sturgis, MS. He was founder and owner of Triangle Drywall and member of Morgan Chapel Baptist Church.  He was a very dedicated family man.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Little Jim Morgan and Annie Mae Bagwell Morgan; sister, Norma Lewis; grandson, Dustin Shannon; and son-in-law, Bill Roberts.
 

Warren Anthony Bourgeois, Jr.

April 10, 2014

Warren Anthony Bourgeois, Jr., 50, passed away on April 10, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS.  He was an Automotive Designer with B&B Trim Shop and was an avid car enthusiast. He was Salutatorian of the 1981 graduating class of Chalmette High School in Chalmette, La.

Fire damages Campus Book Mart Wednesday

April 10, 2014

An early Wednesday morning basement fire has, for now, closed down Campus Book Mart.

East Oktibbeha County Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 2:22 a.m., according to Chief Greg Ball. Bell Schoolhouse Fire Company and Starkville Fire Department provided assistance on the call.
