Ready for round two: MSU hosts USM in WNIT

The Women's National Invitational Tournament doesn't seed its teams when placed in the bracket.
If it did, Mississippi State women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer believes Southern Mississippi would have been one of the higher seeds of the event.
With a 27-6 overall record, the Golden Eagles have one of the better marks in the field and that has gotten Schaefer's attention.

Savannah Carter has experienced success at each level of her basketball career.
After helping her Tulsa (Oklahoma) Memorial High School team to the state tournament for four seasons, Carter was a part of a NJCAA Division I national championship at Trinity Valley Community College.
Carter was signed by the women's coaching staff at Mississippi State to bring some of that winning to Starkville.

Fitts has good start In loss for Bulldogs

Mississippi State saw good outings from all three starters over the weekend. 
Trevor Fitts showed that Sunday and gave the Bulldogs their third quality start of the weekend, the first time MSU starters have done that since the 2011 Atlanta Regional.

Mississippi State entered the Saturday doubleheader at Georgia one week ago needing to win both games to take its first Southeastern Conference series of the season.
This weekend has been a different story.
The No. 24 Bulldogs knocked off No. 3 Vanderbilt 6-3 Saturday night at Dudy Noble Field to clinch their second-straight SEC series of the season.
