Melissa Dickerson Chenney, 56, of Starkville, MS; passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at Starkville Church of Christ in Starkville, MS conducted by John T. Smithson.  Burial will be at New Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Sallis, MS.  The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Welch Funeral Home.

MSU's Mullen in business of helping young people

Dan Mullen wants to win football games and eventually a national championship.
The Mississippi State head coach has high expectations every season, but there is one thing above all he wants to do.
That's help young people.
Mullen just welcomed 23 new young men into his football program after National Signing Day.

Bulldogs sweep weekend action

The first weekend of softball for Mississippi State was pretty close to perfect.
After the Bulldogs made just one error in five games, all wins, and outscoring opponents 43-3, coach Vann Stuedeman couldn't find much to complain about - except for maybe the weather a little bit.
MSU capped play in the Bulldog Kickoff Classic with an 8-0 victory in five innings over Jacksonville State Sunday.

Volunteers begin postseason play today

Playoffs bring a new appearance for the Starkville Academy Volunteers.
“It’s a little bit different this year,” Starkville Academy coach Mark Alexander said. “It’s a 10-team format instead of an eight-team format and so this is essentially a play-in game.”

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at Rockhill United Methodist Church, Starkville, Mississippi with Reverend Jerome Wilson, officiating. 
Visitation will be Sunday, February 9, 2014: 2-6:00 p.m. at West Memorial Chapel, Starkville, Mississippi.

Bulldogs drop game to 'Cats

The University of Kentucky has been the gold standard for Southeastern Conference basketball programs for as long as basketball has been played in the south.
Mississippi State nearly knocked off the historic program inside Humphrey Coliseum on Saturday.
The Bulldogs threw everything but the kitchen sink at No. 18 Kentucky, but ended up dropping a 69-59 decision Saturday afternoon.

SMITH COLUMN: MSU must fight to be successful

The Mississippi State Bulldogs can play basketball with any team in the country.
That is if the Bulldogs play and fight hard.
MSU has shown signs this season of being a pretty good squad.
The Bulldogs had a glimpse of that fight on Saturday against the 18th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats.

Johnson expected to join MSU's staff

It appears that Utah quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson will join the Mississippi State football staff.
Coachingsearch.com reported the news late Friday night, but MSU hadn't confirmed the hire as of Saturday night.
A source confirmed that Johnson interviewed for a position on the Bulldog coaching staff on Thursday. 

Successful night at SHS: Lady Jacket seniors contribute to 66-47 victory
