Bulldogs try to stop losing skid against Crimson Tide

Rick Ray’s first season as the men's basketball coach at Mississippi State saw two losses to Alabama.
The Crimson Tide beat the Bulldogs 75-43 in Starkville and 64-56 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. MSU has lost three-straight to Alabama, but haven’t lost four-straight since 1993-95.

The Mississippi State women's basketball team continues to take the steps necessary to get where head coach Vic Schaefer wants it to be.
There are still going to be times that the Bulldogs do things on the court that will drive Schaefer and his staff crazy, but he loves his players and believes in them.

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers knew it wasn't going to be as easy as they made it look in the first quarter Tuesday night.
After jumping out to a 14-1 lead after one quarter, the Lady Vols saw the Hillcrest Christian Lady Cougars make a run to get back into the game in the second quarter.

Starkville Academy refused to let Hillcrest Christian run away with the ballgame.
In the end, it wasn’t enough.
The Volunteers kept it close for all four quarters, but in the end, the No. 3 Cougars came away with a 52-46 victory Tuesday night inside the Starkville Academy Gymnasium.

SHS drops matches to Madison Central

The Starkville High School soccer teams were not only going against Madison Central Tuesday night, but against history.
Madison Central's program has had the reputation of being strong and that was reflected in its play at Yellowjacket Stadium.
Even though the Lady Jackets lost the girls contest 2-0, coach Anna Albritton could not be prouder of the way her team competed.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at West Memorial Chapel, Starkville, Mississippi.
Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery, Sturgis, Mississippi.

Bulldogs see improvement in free-throw shooting area

Mississippi State head coach Rick Ray and his coaching staff took full advantage of school being out for the past month.
They doubled up on practices and had two-a-days.
The practices paid off, especially with the shooting, for the Bulldogs. The biggest jump that was seen was MSU’s free-throw percentage.
In the last four games, the Bulldogs made 64-of-90 (71 percent) free throws.
