FUMC selects new head of weekday ministries

First United Methodist Church in Starkville has hired Lucy Bryant as director of weekday ministries.

Bryant will head the church’s day care and preschool programs, which serve children newborn to 5 years old.

Two-sport athlete: Wilson lends talent to MSU on football field, and the court

There have been jokes flying around about De'Runnya Wilson just showing up and playing any sport  on the campus of Mississippi State.
The true freshman was a standout wide receiver for the football team this past fall and has joined the basketball team this winter.
Wilson joked that he might play baseball too.

During sporting events, coaches shout things at players, teammates shout things at each other, coaches shout things at officials and sometimes officials shout back. Things can get out of hand in a competitive situation.

WEST POINT – Starkville head coach Greg Carter wasn't happy with the way his squad played in the first half.
He let them know.
"They knew we didn't play very well in the first half," Carter said. "We didn't defend like we normally do and we didn't execute offensively like we normally do. We missed layups and got into foul trouble. The first half isn't how we play."

Robert A. Reed, 75, passed away January 6, 2014 in Fremont, California. Mr. Reed, a former stage and film actor under the name Jesse Deane, grew up in Starkville where his family resided at 201 Herbert Street. He was preceded in death by his parents Allen Reed and Frances Mullen Reed of Starkville.

East Webster, Eupora teams split decisions

MATHISTON – The East Webster Lady Wolverines brought the heat to Wood Junior College on a cold Tuesday evening with a 66-39 victory over visiting Eupora.
For Todd Hutchinson, coach of the Lady Wolverines, the win is a result of his team’s ability to apply pressure when needed and to produce defensively.

MSU's Cohen to speak at Boys, Girls Club event

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Golden Triangle believe it has hit one out of the park with this year's speaker for its Sports Talk Charity Fundraiser.
