For his day job, Jack Blendinger teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes as an Educational Leadership professor in Mississippi State University’s College of Education, but when not in the classroom he enjoys the great outdoors from the comforts of a kayak.

MSU's McVey looks to build off a good freshman season

There may be several words to describe Roxanne McVey, but most of her coaches and teammates agree on one specific thing.
She's not selfish.
The Mississippi State sophomore libero had one of the better freshman campaigns in school history. McVey was the one of the very few bright spots on last year's squad.

Working the weekend: The scrimmage with New Hope helps Starkville

With one week until the high school football season starts, many teams used the weekend to work on different things in a game-type atmosphere.
That was no different for the Starkville Yellowjackets.
The Jackets beat New Hope 17-7 Saturday night at Davis Wade Stadium on Mississippi State's campus in a preseason jamboree hosted by the Trojans.

There were times on Saturday night the Starkville Yellowjackets looked like a team that was reedy to open the season.
Those moments were few and far between.
Even though the Jackets defeated the New Hope Trojans 17-7 during a preseason jamboree hosted by the Trojans at Mississippi State's Davis Wade Stadium, they looked very sloppy in the process.

SA gains experience at tournament

There were plenty of at-bats, rounding of the bases and outs caught during Saturday's 11th annual Exposure Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament.
The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers took part in the event where they faced some of the best teams in Mississippi, and while they gained game experience, the Lady Volunteers were not able to post anything in the wins column.

The high school football programs at Starkville and New Hope didn't exchange film prior to today's jamboree action at Mississippi State's Davis Wade Stadium.
As far as getting tuned up for the season-opener next week, the element of surprise is actually a welcomed thing.

Starkville Academy sees scoreless scrimmages

JACKSON – High school football fans who like to see points scored in great numbers did not get what they wanted Friday night from the Starkville Academy Volunteers.
The Vols played two 20-minute running quarters at the Jackson Academy jamboree and failed to score in either with 0-0 finals against Simpson Academy and Richland.

Whitley anchors MSU safety spot

Mississippi State's secondary does not return many starters from last year's team.
There are no returning starters at cornerback and the only returning starter in the secondary plays safety.
Senior safety Nickoe Whitley will anchor the secondary and the safeties this season, as he is the most experienced player on the back end of the defense.

Lady Vols to get games in during softball tourney

Exposure is the word of the day in the world of high school softball on Saturday.
Taking place at the Starkville Sportsplex, the 11th annual College Exposure Tournament will feature numerous teams from around the state of Mississippi.
Although they are not hosting Starkville Academy will be a willing participant and its coach is looking forward to getting some additional games in.

Bulldogs play Bulls to 1-1 match in exhibition soccer action

There were certain things that Aaron Gordon wanted to see in his first match as the coach of the Mississippi State women's soccer team.
Overtime wasn't necessarily one of those things.
