Volunteers drop home decision

Friday's game against the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots got away from the Starkville Academy Volunteers early.
Madison-Ridgeland got out to a commanding 21-0 lead after just one quarter. The Patriots ultimately went on to win the game in a dominating fashion 40-0.

East Oktibbeha loses to French Camp 43-0

CRAWFORD – Traveling to play teams on the road can be tough, and French Camp has certainly experienced their share of tough road contests this season.
However, the Panthers were able to take care of business on Friday night, shutting out the East Oktibbeha Titans 43-0, and picking up their first road win of the year.

Choctaw County wins first Region 5 outing

ACKERMAN – Choctaw County coach Adam Dillinger wanted to be 1-0 in Class 3A, Region 5 when Friday ended.
He got his wish as the Chargers knocked off Raleigh 48-25.
"We gave a complete effort (Friday)," Dillinger said. "We came out and played hard in a division game, but it starts all over next week. We have to line up again and do it next week."

Hebron Christian blanks Strider

PHEBA – David Foster saw a good offensive explosion by his team Friday night.
Foster's Hebron Christian Eagles beat the Strider Academy Rams 36-0 to start off 1-0 in district play.
"We played really well," Foster said. "We ran multiple guys in the rushing game. We got good blocking and had a good offensive effort."
The Eagles started fast by scoring twice in the first quarter.

MSU student dies from gun-related injury

A Mississippi State University student died Thursday from wounds in a gun-related incident.
The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the death of Dustin Johnson, a 22-year-old geosciences major from Jackson.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff Steve Gladney said the incident occurred around 1 a.m. Thursday east of Starkville, near Hickory Grove.

C Spire to build data center

NK CEO Joe Max Higgins may not know all the ins and outs of high technology, but he knows a good thing when he sees it.

That’s what he told a crowd of local officials and community leaders Thursday before C Spire announced it would build a $20 million data processing center at the Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park.

There are new variations of the flu vaccine available. One of those is a flu shot that will protect against four strains of the flu, as opposed to three strains because of evidence of a more dominant B strain.
