It's amazing to consider that Texas A&M went into the season in August not knowing who the starting quarterback was going to be.

At that time, nobody knew what Johnny Manziel could do.

Aggie head coach Kevin Sumlin decided to give Manziel a chance and that seemed to work out pretty well.

Vols get win after slow start

It wasn't the type of beginning the Starkville Academy Volunteers wanted to Saturday afternoon's game against Lamar School.

However, the finish was pretty good.

After falling behind their visitors 9-1 early, the Vols shook themselves and rallied for a 52-43 victory at home.

Lady Vols return from break to beat Lady Raiders 74-36

It didn't take long for the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers to knock off the rust of the Christmas break.

The Lady Vols were off and rolling again by defeating the Lamar School Lady Raiders 74-36 at home Saturday.

Facing a tough basketball team, Starkville Academy coach Glenn Schmidt is proud of the way her team performed.

Cougars stumble to Crusaders 59-52

It's difficult to win basketball games when shots aren't falling.

The Starkville Christian Cougars learned that lesson the hard way Friday night.

Starkville Christian's 33-25 lead at halftime could have been much more, then found out it wasn't enough as the Tupelo Christian Academy Crusaders rallied for a 59-52 win at the Cougar Cave.

The Cougars were outscored 34-19 in the second half.

Shooting suspect in Oktibbeha County custody

Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Deputies have a man in custody in connection with a Dec. 28 shooting which left one victim with a gunshot wound.
Lorenzo Lamas Hunter, 27, of 598 Blair Road, was arrested Dec. 29 and charged with one count of aggravated assault. He is in Oktibbeha County Jail and his bond has been set at $10,000.
