MSU, Florida women have similar goals

Mississippi State women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer has watched his team take one step forward one day, then two steps back the next.

Even though there have been some tough moments since he became the coach of the Bulldogs, Schaefer has had "fun" working with a young and inexperienced team.

Turner returning to MSU as defensive line coach

David Turner will be making a return to Starkville.

On Wednesday, it was learned that Turner was returning to the Mississippi State football coaching staff as the defensive line coach. 

Turner is taking over for Chris Wilson, who left to take the defensive line coaching position at Georgia.

Turner was the defensive line coach at MSU from 2007-2009.

The Oktibbeha County Excel By 5 Coalition discussed future events and plans to increase publicity, including new potential signage at city entrances, at its meeting Wednesday at the Starkville School District’s Family Centered Programs office.

County school district fails to release agenda

The Oktibbeha County School District will hold its regular monthly meeting at noon Thursday in the district’s offices in downtown Starkville, but no agenda for the meeting was available Wednesday.

Mrs. Frankie Lucille Putman Ray, 98, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at Highland Home Nursing Center in Ridgeland.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman.
Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery in Chester.
Visitation will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 prior to service.

Mr. David Wesley Evers Jr., 78, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. 

A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father John Bohn officiating.
Visitation will be held 9-11 a.m. at the church prior to service.

YORK HARBOR, Maine — Mr. Perry Wesley Mullen Sr. of Vero Beach, Fla. and longtime resident of Starkville, 90, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at North Springs United Methodist Church in Sandy Springs, Ga.
Burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Ga. with an informal reception to follow.
