Memories of family hike, discovery of special sanctuary

I want to take you down memory lane with my family — Daddy, Mama, Johnny and me — deep into the woods of the National Noxubee Wildlife Refuge in the early 1950s which led us to the discovery of a very special sanctuary. One of our favorite things to do as a family was to take a long Sunday afternoon hike back down to the refuge.

Planned park group takes shape during Saturday meeting

The foundation of a board tasked with Unity Park monument nominations was developed when eight residents agreed Saturday to attend such future meetings.

District 5 Supervisor Joe Williams, who moderated yesterday’s park discussions, will propose the board’s formation 9 a.m. Monday at the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors meeting.

Unity Park meeting scheduled at annex

Discussions on possible landmarks honoring local civil rights at Unity Park will continue today at the Oktibbeha County Courthouse Annex.
Today’s meeting is the second such gathering in the past week. It will be held at 3:30 p.m. and moderated by District 5 Supervisor Joe Williams.
