MSU's defense suffers when offense lacking

The Mississippi State men's basketball team had a glimmer of hope heading into last Saturday's home game against Vanderbilt.

The Bulldogs (7-19, 2-12) were in the game late against Alabama last Wednesday, but ended up dropping a 64-56 decision.

MSU played well down the stretch and Bulldog head coach Rick Ray was hoping it was going to carry over when the Bulldogs hosted the Commodores.

MSU's Owen picks up SEC recognition

Alison Owen has been waiting a long time to get back into the circle.

The Mississippi State redshirt junior has made quite an impact so far in 2013 for the Bulldog softball team.

It was proved to be true for Owen again last weekend and she got attention for it on Monday.

Owen was selected as the Southeastern Conference Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week.

As Title I social worker at Sudduth Elementary School, Ginger Mitchell sees a lot of mothers each day.

Mitchell said a great many mothers had joined Sudduth's Parent-Teacher Organization, and a number of mothers taught or had other jobs at Sudduth. It was rarer, she said, to see fathers — or even grown men in general — and she wanted to change that.

1 escapes mobile home fire uninjured

A University Hills Mobile Home Park resident evaded injury Sunday morning after waking up to find her home filled with smoke.

Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said East Oktibbeha County Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 6:33 a.m. Sunday and found an electric furnace had ignited a fire inside and around the residence.

SHS senior recognized as student journalist of year

Starkville High School journalism teacher R.J. Morgan had a plan to surprise his student Leah Gibson, and the results are on Youtube.

Gibson is a co-anchor on SHS’s “My Morning Jacket,” a TV news program broadcast within SHS and posted online. For the Wednesday edition, Morgan said he handed co-anchor Barnes Locke a sheet of paper with a special announcement.
