Future of bank branches uncertain

Renasant Corporation and First M&F Corporation signed a definitive merger agreement earlier this month, but any discussion on what will become of the two Starkville M&F locations is moot until acquisition closes later this year, according to Renasant representatives.

The Starkville Historic Preservation Commission recommended approval of boundaries and standards for local historic districts without any amendments at its meeting Tuesday, despite multiple residents appearing at the meeting to ask them to exclude their properties from the districts.

Brandon Hernandez had two family members at the Starkville Police Department before he joined SPD himself. His brother-in-law, Jonathan Headley, and his wife, Gabrielle Hernandez, are both officers with SPD, but he said that did not mean those two played a role in recruiting him.

MSU's defense suffers when offense lacking

The Mississippi State men's basketball team had a glimmer of hope heading into last Saturday's home game against Vanderbilt.

The Bulldogs (7-19, 2-12) were in the game late against Alabama last Wednesday, but ended up dropping a 64-56 decision.

MSU played well down the stretch and Bulldog head coach Rick Ray was hoping it was going to carry over when the Bulldogs hosted the Commodores.
