Commission OKs rezoning requests

The Starkville Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval for two rezoning requests at its meeting Tuesday at City Hall, clearing hurdles for a 240-unit student housing project on Highway 12 East and the relocation of Neblett's Frame Outlet to Evergreen Street.

Senate passes amended consolidation bill

The state Senate has passed the Starkville and Oktibbeha County school district consolidation bill in an amended form.

The amendment proposes the seven-member commission tasked with recommending how best to implement consolidation also be authorized to recommend that the Starkville-Oktibbeha County School District include territory in adjoining counties.

Black smoke emerges from the chimney on the roof of the Sistine Chapel, in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, Tuesday, March 12, 2013. The black smoke indicates that the new pope has not been elected yet.

Iola Hogan

March 12, 2013

Iola Prater Hogan, 94, died Friday, March 8, 2013 in Starkville.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Second
Baptist Church, Starkville, with the Rev. Joseph Stone officiating.

Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at West
Memorial Chapel.

Burial will follow at Odd Fellow Cemetery of Starkville.

Hosemann speaks at Rotary

Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann made a second Starkville appearance in six months to update members of the Rotary Club on the status of two objectives he had spearheaded recently during his tenure: the state’s voter identification law and the SMART Business Act.

MSU looks to beat USM once again at Trustmark

The Mississippi State baseball has recently seen a good bit of success against Southern Mississippi in Pearl.
The No. 8 (Collegiate Baseball) Bulldogs try to make it three in a row over the Golden Eagles tonight when they make the trip to Pearl.

MSU's Sword receives SEC honor again

It seems that one thing is clear, Craig Sword wants his freshman season with the Mississippi State Bulldogs to continue.
The 6-3, 189-pound Montgomery, Ala. native, earned the honor of Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week.

Furr finds USM much to his liking

HATTIESBURG – Former Ackerman High School athlete Andrew Furr has called playing baseball for Southern Mississippi and living in Hattiesburg an "eye-opening experience" and it's one he looks forward to continuing.

Zoning board to weigh two rezoning requests

March 11, 2013

The Starkville Planning and Zoning Commission will hear two rezoning requests at its meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the City Hall courtroom, one to create a buffer zone location for a 240-unit student housing project on Highway 12 East and one to enable Neblett's Frames to move to the former Copeland Family Medical Clinic location.
