Leon McWilliams Jr.

April 16, 2013

Leon C. McWilliams, Jr., age 91, passed away on April 14, 2013 at Oktibbeha County Hospital.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church, 106 E Lampkin Street, Starkville, MS 39759.  Visitation will be in the church sanctuary prior to the funeral service starting at 12:00 noon.  Interment will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery.

State's Holloway proves to be versatile on offense

Brandon Holloway didn't know where he was going to fit on the Mississippi State football team.
The redshirt freshman is listed as an athlete on the roster. He has been practicing with the wide receivers, but with his speed, the Bulldogs have been trying him out at running back.

Bette Scales

April 16, 2013

Bette Ward Scales of Collierville, TN, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013 in her home. She was 85 years old.  Bette is preceded in death by her husband, Sam W.

Starkville drops decision to New Hope

April 16, 2013

There was not much to celebrate Tuesday evening for the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets softball team except for the senior night festivities that took place before first pitch.
In an early evening ballgame, the Lady Jackets welcomed New Hope to town and when the buses were loaded, the Lady Trojans left with a 16-0 victory.

County to refinance improvement bonds

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors approved refinancing hospital improvement bonds during its meeting Monday. The refinance is expected to save the county $1,450,639.03 over the next 14 years.

TEA Party takes to courthouse

April 16, 2013

Members of the Starkville TEA Party converged at the Oktibbeha County Courthouse on Monday for their annual Tax Day Rally.
Two speakers were featured — Dr. Everett McKibben from the Laird Clinic of Family Medicine in Starkville and District 42 State Sen. Chris McDaniel (R-Laurel).

E-waste recycling focus of Earth Day event

E-Waste of Mississippi will celebrate Earth Day by collecting the public's electronic waste for free from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Golden Triangle Regional Solid Waste Management Authority Landfill at 9778 Old West Point Road in Starkville.

Aldermen to consider TIF

Yellowjackets qualify for state

April 16, 2013

Starkville High School golf coach Sam Bryant knew his team was going to have "to be ready to play" at the Class 5A, Region 2, District 6 meet on Monday in order to shoot the score necessary to make the State tournament.
The mission was accomplished.

Starkville Academy sports best finish of year

April 16, 2013

HATTIESBURG – The Starkville Academy golf team shot a 314 as a team on Monday to finish second at the Presbyterian Christian School Tournament.
