Vernell Logan, 57, died Friday, May 24, 2013 in Bronx, New York.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at New Bethel 

Missionary Baptist Church, Maben, Mississippi with Reverend Carlton Fisher, officiating.

Burial will follow at New Bethel Cemetery, Maben, Mississippi.

West Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Flora Mae Fulgham

Flora Mae Fulgham, passed away on June 2, 2013 in Starkville, MS.  She was a homemaker and a member of Self Creek Baptist Church, where she was a church nursery worker and Sunday school teacher.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. 

MSU's Girodo delivers solid outing out of pen

Mississippi State was going to have to have a great outing by its bullpen.
Chad Girodo delivered.
Girodo and the No. 14 (Collegiate Baseball) Bulldogs beat Central Arkansas 6-1 Monday night to win the Starkville Regional and advanced to the Super Regional round.
The No. 4 seed Bears (42-22) beat No. 1 seed MSU (46-18) 5-2 on Sunday night to force the game seven.

It was worth wait for the Bulldogs

It was worth the wait for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
After losing a 5-2 decision to Central Arkansas Sunday night and having a bad taste in their mouths for 24 hours, the Bulldogs got the job done on Monday with a 6-1 victory over the Bears on Monday night at Dudy Noble Field.

Lowrey announces resignation as coach at West Oktibbeha

Adam Lowrey has announced his resignation after five years at the helm of West Oktibbeha football.
Looking back on his time with the Timberwolves, Lowrey is appreciative of the young men that have come through the program and is happy that he had the chance to somehow influence their lives.

Everyone knows about March Madness, but the Starkville Parks and Recreation Department has found a way to start and maintain its version of June Madness.
With a high school basketball league running through the month, teams from all over the area get to keep their skills sharp in the offseason.

SPIRIT OF OKTIBBEHA - SA teacher dedicated to life of selflessness

Of all the adjectives one could use to describe Barb Adkins, dedicated might be the best. An active member in the community, Adkins has participated heavily in the Starkville Area Arts Council and Pilot Club in addition to her responsibilities as a ninth- and 11th-grade English teacher and adviser at Starkville Academy.

But to many, she’s so much more than that.

OCSD to discuss consolidation

Oktibbeha County School District Conservator Margie Pulley will discuss school district consolidation at a regular monthly meeting at noon today in the district’s office, following two called meetings held May 14 and May 22 to deal with matters related to personnel and student transfers.

Mississippi State will have to wait for another chance to advance to an NCAA Super Regional.
The No. 14 (Collegiate Baseball) Bulldogs dropped a 5-2 decision to Central Arkansas Sunday night in the Starkville Regional.
The No. 1 seed Bulldogs (45-18) and No. 4 seed Bears (42-21) meet again tonight at 7 p.m. to decide who moves on to face Virginia in the Super Regional.
