The Starkville Academy basketball teams will have to make sure the buses have plenty of gas and are ready to go for the next several weeks.
Last Tuesday's games with Heritage Academy were the only home games scheduled in the month of December for the Volunteers and Lady Vols.

There are no records, no rankings and everyone is on equal footing.
That newness also brings the chance to adjust things that might not have been so successful the previous year. Add in a new coach and the adjustments take on a whole new meaning.

Bulldogs excited for another bowl

Thanksgiving evening the Mississippi State Bulldogs secured their sixth win as they defeated the University of Mississippi 17-10.
With the victory, MSU became bowl eligible and all that was left to do was wait and see where bowl season took them. On Sunday night, that question was answered as the Bulldogs accepted a bid to appear in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl where they will face the Rice Owls.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS: EMCC gets second title in three seasons

BILOXI – Georgia Military College entered Sunday’s Mississippi Bowl with the nation’s top ranking and the nation’s top running back in the form of freshman sensation Jovon Robinson.
However, former West Point High School standout Lakenderic Thomas stole the spotlight and No. 2 East Mississippi Community College stole the national title.

SCOOBA – There has never been a national championship in football decided in the state of Mississippi.
That all changes today.
No. 2 East Mississippi (11-0) plays No. 1 Georgia Military (11-0) at Biloxi Indians Stadium in Biloxi in the NJCAA national championship game.

EMCC offense: Lions proud to be prolific, balanced

SCOOBA – The East Mississippi Community College has proved to opponents this year that it has a very dangerous offense.
It's not just because of the scoring as the Lions have averaged 63.2 points per game and defeated Coahoma Community College 90-7 earlier this season. EMCC has the yards to go with those points.

SCOOBA – When it comes to the East Mississippi Community College Lions, most people look and at the stats and see an offensive team.
The Lion defense has been just as good, if not better than the offense this season. The unit has given up just 85 points in 11 games this season with 52 of those points coming in two postseason games. 
The defense has pitched five shutouts this season.

SMITH COLUMN: Liberty Bowl has interest in Bulldogs

The Liberty Bowl made it very clear down the stretch of the season that the Mississippi State Bulldogs were on its radar.
Scouts from the Memphis-based NCAA postseason bowl attended MSU's games in Little Rock, Ark., against Arkansas and in Starkville for the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss, both overtime victories for the Bulldogs.

Panthers progress throughout season

The French Camp Panthers began the season as favorites to play in the state championship game.
