Retired Army colonel Jeff Donald made a career out of serving, and he continues to serve even after his retirement. As a member of the American Legion, OSERVS, Rotary Club and the Greater Starkville Development Partnership Military Affairs Committee, Donald strives to improve the lives of other veterans and members of the community.
It was boot scootin' fun for members of the Starkville Area Arts Council on Friday night as the group held its annual membership party with a western theme. It's an event many members look forward to for months, said Arts Council Executive Assistant Candy Crecink.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. â€“ With Mississippi State leading Virginia 5-3 in the seventh inning, heavy rain and lightning forced a delay in game two of the Charlottesville Super Regional Sunday night at Davenport Field.
The rain was persistent and caused the game to be suspended. The two teams will resume play today at 3 p.m.

Leonard Hood Brandon, M.D., age 86, of Starkville, Mississippi, passed away on June 7, 2013 at 7:25 p.m. with his family by his side. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him and found him to be a steady and loving father, husband, friend and doctor.
Mr. James Thomas Bland, 87, of Maben, MS; passed away at his residence.
He was a veteran of World War II, a guard at the Nuremberg Trials, a Postmaster for Cumberland, and a Rural Mail carrier for Maben.Â He also loved to bow hunt.

Junior outfielder Hunter Renfroe was taken by the San Diego Padres with the 13th overall pick Thursday night. Junior shortstop Adam Frazier was taken the Pittsburgh Pirates in the sixth round on Friday.

The junior shortstop went 6-for-6Â and was a home run shy of the cycle in a 11-6 win over No. 6 (Collegiate Baseball) Virginia in the first game of the Charlottesville Super Regional.Â
It was a situation that Mississippi State seemed to handle about as well as it could.
When the NCAA Committee of Infractions released their findings on Friday and handed down its ruling for the Bulldog football program, the penalties could have been much worse.
