Mississippi State University has named winners of its annual faculty awards and Donald Zacharias Distinguished Staff Awards for 2013, including its newest William L. Giles Distinguished Professor, Mark Novotny.

Police work to overcome language gap

Starkville’s culture is continually changing, and Starkville Police Department is working to overcome the challenges that come with that shift. Next week, officers will undergo a three-day language course to better navigate day-to-day operations involving Spanish-speaking residents.

Cohen's club ready: Coach has battle-tested MSU on national stage

It has been 23 years since John Cohen has been a participant at the College World Series.
That all changes today.
The Mississippi State fifth-year head coach leads his No. 7 (Collegiate Baseball) Bulldogs against the No. 3 Oregon State Beavers in the first game of the 2013 College World Series.

Bulldogs are not satisfied with just being in Omaha

The ultimate goal of many college baseball programs is to be one of the last eight teams standing at the College World Series.
Mississippi State (48-18) is one of the eight participants at this year's College World Series. The No. 7 (Collegiate Baseball) Bulldogs are making their ninth appearance at the College World Series.

Garner adapts: New SHS coach knows bats have changed game

Someone once said that for every action there is an equal reaction.
The same can be said in sports. As rules change and equipment advances so must those that are running the game.
New Starkville Yellowjacket baseball coach Travis Garner understands this as much as anybody and he has constantly adapted with the game. In particular, Garner had to change his approach in the style of hitting.

SHS players anxious for future with Garner

The future of the Starkville High School baseball program witnessed the change at the top on Friday when Travis Garner was introduced as the new head coach.
As SHS athletic director Stan Miller talked about the accomplishments of Garner and what he brings to the table for the Yellowjackets, there were three sophomores-to-be who were very interested.

Detz the Bulldog: MSU third baseman was almost Beaver

Mississippi State's Alex Detz could have very easily been in an Oregon State jersey when the two teams meet in the opening game of the College World Series Saturday.
Detz was very close to being a Beaver instead of a Bulldog.
Following his junior college career at Cuesta (Calif.) College, Detz was ready to just move up the West Coast and attend Oregon State.
