Coach Corner: Buckner looks forward to second year at SCS

Luke Buckner is excited about the possibilities as he enters the second season as the coach of the Starkville Christian Lady Cougars.
After going through one season already with the Lady Cougars, Buckner believes they will be ahead of the game moving forward just because the coaching philosophy won't change.

VCC grants available to promote tourism

Tourism remains a growing industry in Starkville, and the Visitors and Convention Council, often called the Convention and Visitors Bureau, is working to help area nonprofit organizations promote that growth.

2 historic districts pass - Greensboro, Nash Districts adopted; Overstreet scrapped

For two of the three proposed historic districts in Starkville, months of anticipation and opinionated debate came to a head at the Starkville Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday night. Following the last in a series of public hearings, the board passed proposals and standards for historical districts on Greensboro and Nash streets.

Maben OKs street contract

The Maben Board of Aldermen approved a contract with Calvert-Spradling Engineers in West Point to improve Louise Street, the city’s industrial park road, at a recess meeting Monday.

OCSD moves funds, hires new personnel

Oktibbeha County School District approved transferring funds to the district maintenance account and the hiring of several new personnel at a called meeting on Tuesday.

Conservator Margie Pulley approved OCSD’s transfer of $150,000 from 16th Section interest funds to the district maintenance fund.

Joshua Parrish McKay

Joshua Parrish McKay was born in Natchez Mississippi on January 5, 1979 to Rev. Roy Lee McKay and Marcia Ann Parrish McKay of Aberdeen MS. He passed away on June 16, 2013 in Meridianville, Alabama.

Besides his parents, Josh leaves behind a large family who loved him, especially his brother Matthew and his wife Hannah McKay and their son Isaac (Oklahoma City).

Mitchell, friends enjoy Omaha experience
