Tough for openers: MSU starts season against talented Oklahoma State

In his first four seasons, Dan Mullen's opener has been what some might call "a walk in the park" as the football coach at Mississippi State.
The Bulldogs have played Jackson State twice at home, Memphis at home and the Tigers again, this time on the road.

Braves hurting without a pair of SEC hurlers

The Atlanta Braves appeared to be in good shape to make a serious run at the National League pennant and a spot in the World Series with two former Southeastern Conference pitchers anchoring their staff.
That notion has taken a big hit over the last week as both Paul Maholm, who pitched at Mississippi State from 2001-03, and Tim Hudson, a product of Auburn, both went down with injuries.

City transitions after CAO fired

Starkville Board of Aldermen on Tuesday elected to uphold its original vote to terminate Chief Administrative Officer Lynn Spruill’s employment with the city, overriding a veto issued by Mayor Parker Wiseman.

MSU professor charged with sexual battery

July 25, 2013

Starkville Police Department reported on Wednesday the arrest of Yoginder Dandass, 46, of Starkville on suspicion of sexual battery.

According to the SPD release, Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department arrested Dondas on Monday, following a lengthy SPD investigation into the matter.

Bank employee accused of $30K embezzlement

The Mississippi Attorney General’s office reported the arrest of Ashley Smith, 28, of Columbus, for embezzling money while working for Cadence Bank in Starkville.

According to a release, the Oktibbeha County grand jury indicted Smith on one count of embezzlement.

The craft beer movement is on the rise in Mississippi, and Starkville is contributing. On Wednesday, Starkville joined the fourth Annual Mississippi Craft Beer week festivities.

Supervisors consider fate of 16th district drug court

Keeping a drug court office in Oktibbeha County may depend on what kind of landlord the Board of Supervisors chooses to be.

If the supervisors are the type of landlords who expect rent, 16th Circuit Court District Drug Court Administrator April Edwards said the program might have to relocate its office to another county.
