Hebron Christian School pulls off a sweep at SCS

The Starkville Christian School Lady Cougars were not going down without a fight at home Friday night.
Despite trailing Hebron Christian School for three quarters, Starkville Christian battled back to take a lead in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Cougars could not sustain the success and ultimately dropped a 39-31 decision to the visiting Lady Eagles.

East Webster teams split in tournament action

ACKERMAN – In order to have success, you have to put in the work necessary, and for the Lady Wolverines of East Webster, that means continuing to get court time under their feet.
To make that happen, the team took part in the Choctaw County Tournament where they picked up a pair of victories including a 46-20 win over Caledonia on Friday.

Starkville's Mitchell serves Mississippi as the scout coach

Starkville High School football coach Jamie Mitchell has had Alabama on his mind this week.
Mitchell traveled to Mobile, Ala., to serve as the scout coach for the Mississippi All-Stars for the 27th annual Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game that takes place today.

Choctaw County's Lee to show talent

Taboris Lee was a standout for the Choctaw County Chargers all football season long.
Now the senior will get the opportunity to prove himself on a new level as he participates in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game.

Mark Stephen Ford

Mark Stephen Ford, 52, a retired truck driver, passed away Wednesday December 11, 2013 at his home near Mathiston, MS. Mr. Ford was born March 10, 1961 to Willie L. and Joyce (McMinn) Ford. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church near Mathiston, MS.

Addie Christine Hawkins Tomlinson, 96, passed away on December 12, 2013 at The Carrington Nursing Center in Starkville, MS. A forty-year resident of Starkville, she was a homemaker and was known for her love of gardening, culinary skills and beautiful handwork.

MSU preps for fall graduation

Mississippi State University usually has so many students walking across the stage for its spring graduation that it splits them into two ceremonies. There’s only one ceremony for MSU’s fall graduation, but MSU Registrar John Dickerson said that doesn’t mean there are that many fewer fall graduates.

State agency warns of holiday scams

Officials are warning Mississippians to beware of scams during the holiday season.

The Secretary of State’s office released a reminder to residents to be sure to check that any charity they donate to during the holiday season is legitimate. According to the Secretary of State’s report, charities in Mississippi must be registered with the Secretary of State’s office to solicit funds.

Volunteer Starkville engages youth in community service

 Visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 13, 2013 @ West Memorial Funeral Home in Starkville, MS from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
