Bulldogs open practice today

July 31, 2013

The long dog days of summer see many people in the south longing for the new college football season.
For Mississippi State fans, the wait is almost over, at least for practice.
The Bulldogs hit the field today for the first fall practice of the 2013 campaign.
"I'm very excited about this year coming back," MSU head coach Dan Mullen said in July at Southeastern Conference Media Days.

Ernest Sanford Griggs, 88, passed away on July 29, 2013 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, MS.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Griggs and Mable Barnes Griggs.

James Thomas Blanks (Jimmy), 91 passed away at The Orchard, on July 30, 2013.  He was born on October 22, 1921 in Meridian, MS.  He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, but had been unable to attend in recent years, due to his health.  He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

WEST POINT – Aeris Williams is described by his high school coach as a football player who is humble, works hard and makes everyone around him better.
Those characteristics of the West Point High School running back will carry over to the camp of Mississippi State one day if the statement he gave Wednesday holds.

Volunteers ready to start drills

Starkville Academy's football team has been working throughout the summer to stay in shape and prepare for the upcoming season.
The team will kick it up a notch today as they enter two-a-day practices.

Foster shares story with girls at camp

Mississippi State women's basketball player Candace Foster jumped at the chance to help at a girls camp.
Foster spoke on the final day of the Next Training Basketball Camp and told the campers the importance of keeping God first and working hard in everything they do.

Rep. Ellis hospitalized after apparent stroke

District 38 Rep. Tyrone Ellis (D-Starkville) suffered a stroke Monday evening and was taken to Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Further details on Ellis’ condition were not available as off press time.
