2 police hired in Sturgis

The Sturgis Board of Aldermen filled its two remaining police positions at its regular meeting Tuesday, but it delayed a decision about which of those hires would become the assistant police chief, deferring to the city’s new police chief.

Positions not settled: Hevesy wants to see MSU offensive linemen compete every day for play

Offensive line positions for the Mississippi State Bulldogs are still up for grabs according to offensive line coach John Hevesy, but there are a number of players that could seeing playing time in 2013.
There are several players who are going to get definite playing time this year starting with senior left guard Gabe Jackson.

Not when they captured the title in May and three months later the Lady Wolverines have to get ready for the slow-pitch season.

Gloria Jean Robinson Sherrod, 63, died August 5, 2013 in Starkville, MS.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 8, 2013 at West Memorial Funeral Home from 2 - 6 p.m.

Funeral will be held Friday, August 9, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Mount Peiler M.B. Church, Starkville, MS with Reverend Charlie Barnes, Sr., officiating.

Burial will be at Mount Peiler Cemetery.

$5 million bond resolution approved

Despite a heated warning from Ward 6 Alderman Roy Perkins that the city could be setting itself up for a potential tax increase, Starkville’s Board of Aldermen passed a resolution setting aside $5 million in general obligation bonds for industrial development.

The measure passed in a 4-2 vote, with only Perkins and Ward 7 Alderman Henry Vaughn opposed. Ward 1 Alderman Ben Carver was absent.
