SCT kicks off new season with ‘The Odd Couple’

The Starkville Community Theatre kicks off its 37th season Thursday night with Neil Simon's classic comedy, "The Odd Couple."

Books & Authors begins Thursday

Friends of Starkville Library will begin its 2013-14 season of Books & Authors on Thursday.

The monthly series will be held at noon on the second Thursday of the month at the Starkville-Oktibbeha Public Library. The first author of the year will be Joe Lee, a Starkville native, bringing his new book "Last Chance Texaco."

Chris Jones is still a defensive end at heart.
The Mississippi State freshman defensive lineman was one of the biggest recruits in the 2013 class.
The Houston High School graduate chose the Bulldogs over in-state rival Ole Miss. 
When he arrived in Starkville, the coaching staff started working on transitioning him from a defensive end to a defensive tackle.

Lady Jackets use team effort for win

It was all about the team effort Tuesday evening as the Starkville High volleyball team defeated visiting Olive Branch in four sets 25-23, 25-9, 17-25 and 25-16.
No one Lady Yellowjacket dominated the game, but instead several members of the team stepped up and contributed to the victory.

Starkville Academy defeats Pillow 5-4 in soccer

Sallie Kate Richardson was determined to give everything she had for the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers Tuesday afternoon.
It was twice that the Pillow Academy Lady Mustangs tied up the soccer match with the Lady Vols at the Starkville Sportsplex, but both times Richardson put in the goals to put her team back on top.

Supes OK Cumulus tax exemption

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a request to allow Project Cumulus a 10-year tax exemption at a regular meeting on Monday.
