SHS takes volleyball decision

HORN LAKE – The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets went on the road Thursday night and picked up another Class 6A, Region 2 victory by sweeping Horn Lake 25-15, 25-20, 25-19.

Baker, EMCC cruise to 69-0 win at home

SCOOBA – Preston Baker turned 19 on Thursday.
It turned out to be a bittersweet birthday.
The East Mississippi Community College freshman running back accounted for two touchdowns but was injured on the last play of the game as the No. 5 Lions rolled past Southwest Mississippi Community College 69-0.

Abduction attempt reported at MSU

Mrs. Jeanette Bagwell Avery, 73, retired office manager, died September 7, 2013 at her residence in Eupora. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. She is survived by a daughter; Ann A.

Former MSU players cited: Yahoo Sports report alleges Cox, Bumphis took benefits

A report on Yahoo Sports brought to light on Wednesday allegations involving former Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and wide receiver Chad Bumphis.
Yahoo reported that the two former Bulldogs received impermissible benefits while attending MSU.

MSU starts SEC schedule with Auburn once again

Mississippi State and Auburn aren't really considered rivals.
The two teams are in the Southeastern Conference Western Division, and have played 86 times.
Since coach Dan Mullen took over the Bulldog program, the first SEC game for MSU has been Auburn. He sees that as an instant rival.

Southaven coach sees room for improvement

Ed Rich does not sound like a coach that has an undefeated football team after three games.
Despite being 3-0 at this point of the season, Rich said the Southaven Chargers have a long way to go and much improvement to make.

Anderson, Cougars believe battle looms with the Vols

MSU freshmen breaking records

Mississippi State University’s fall 2013 freshman class is breaking records.

The university reported 3,156 first-time freshmen enrolling in the university — the largest such class in the university’s history.

The large incoming class marked a continuation in a trend of recent years of steady undergraduate enrollment growth at the university.
