True family affair: Outlaw shares his special day with Starkville

Travis Outlaw will always proudly call Starkville home.
On Saturday, Outlaw spent some of the last moments of free time he had before reporting back to the National Basketball Association and the Sacramento Kings to let the community know just how grateful he is for its support over the years.

Jackets blank Tigers: SHS gets 17-0 opening victory

MACON – Jamie Mitchell has done several big things as the head coach of the Starkville High School Yellowjackets.
He has taken SHS to the Class 5A State championship two years in a row and won the title last season.
Yet there was one big thing he wanted to do this season, and that was to beat Noxubee County.

Starkville Academy loses 35-3 decision on road

MERIDIAN – Johnathan Burton hit a 44-yard field goal for the Starkville Academy Volunteers in the first half, but it was not nearly enough as the homestanding Lamar School Raiders earned a 35-3 victory on Friday night.

Choctaw County claims 21-16 win

FRENCH CAMP – Judging by the way they played Friday night, one would never guess that the Choctaw County Chargers have only been together for a few months.
Taking on their cross county rivals French Camp, the Chargers ended their first game of the season with a 21-16 victory.

Eupora enjoys good start with 34-6 home triumph

Wolverines rout Rams to open season

MABEN – To some teams, the season opener is usually a preview of how the rest of the season will go.
If Friday night was any indication, the East Webster Wolverines seem to be in good shape.
The Wolverines opened their 2013 campaign at home, defeating the Vardaman Rams 53-6.

SHS girls sport experienced runners

It's good to have an individual defending state champion for any high school athletic team.
Not only do the Starkville Lady Yellowjacket cross country team have Kate Mattox, who has won the last two Class 5A State cross country titles, back, but there's a nice supporting cast around her.
