In 2001, Bracky Brett took a job at a small 1A high school just north of Columbus.
Brett was hired by Hamilton High School to be the assistant principal, athletic director and head football coach.
After spending many years as an assistant coach, including an eight year stint at Starkville High School from 1992-2000, Brett found what he describes as the best job he has ever had.
Day two of Dizzy Dean competition is complete for the Starkville American team and the 8-year-olds still find themselves in the driverâ€™s seat.
Having won all previous games, Starkville only had one game on day two and it was against a tough Mathiston team. Going into the game coach Charlie Williamson knew it was going to be close, but just how close was yet to be seen.
As Saturday came to a close the Starkville National 8-year-old All-Star team was on a roll.
After dropping the first game of the Dizzy Dean South State Tournament, the team won two straight to setup a Sunday meeting with Eupora. The winning continued as Starkville defeated Eupora 16-8 to keep progressing in the tournament.
WINONA â€“ Starkville took two games on Sunday to continue their stay in Winona for the Dizzy Dean 10-year-old State Tournament.
First up was a ball game with Union County where Starkville came out on top 12-0 to set up a repeat contest with Greenwood.
The bats again showed up in the second game as Starkville defeated Greenwood 17-8.
