Building a tradition: Schmidt likes direction of Vols

Last season was a banner year for Starkville Academy athletics and athletic director Glenn Schmidt intends to continue that standard right into the next school year.
“As a whole, I think our whole program was outstanding,” Schmidt said. “I just feel we are going to keep rolling so to speak, let the tradition roll into next year and give us a boost to some of the things we want to do.”

Dizzy Dean 8 State comes to Starkville

McKee Park will be busy with baseball action this weekend.
Beginning Friday afternoon, the park will play host to the Dizzy Dean 8-year-old State Tournament, which features 17 teams from across the state. Two of those teams will be from right here in Starkville.

TSGT Clarence Edward Crossley, Sr., 87, died on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, MS.  Visitation is Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS.  Funeral services are 10:30 a.m.

I've had some time the last few days to sit down and collect my thoughts on what just transpired with the Mississippi State baseball team.
The run the Bulldogs made was incredible. 
I am less than half a year into the Mississippi State beat, and I never imagined I would be covering a national championship this soon.

MSU's Pollorena signs deal with the Rangers

Luis Pollorena became a crowd favorite at Dudy Noble Field in his three seasons with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
The MSU senior left hander will take his personality with him to the next level.
The Laredo, Texas native was taken in the 23rd round by the Texas Rangers in last month's First-Year Player draft.

Bulldogs getting in summer work in basketball

Mississippi State is about four months away from the start of the basketball season.
That hasn't stopped the Bulldogs from working out.
This summer has been full of drills for the players in preparation for the 2013-14 hoops season.

Little conducts camp before leaving home

Before Anna Lea Little leaves Starkville to attend Arkansas Tech to continue her education and basketball career, she had a little unfinished business at the Sportsplex.
The former Starkville Academy basketball player has been working the ALL (Anna Lea Little) Fun Basketball Camp the last two days.
On Tuesday, Little was able to introduce the campers to Lady Volunteer head coach Glenn Schmidt.

OCH Regional Medical Center reopened its aquatic facility on Monday after it was closed for two months while undergoing renovations. To celebrate the re-opening, OCH hosted an open house complete with snow cones, water games and information booths.
