LaFrance A. Carson, 42, died on July 15, 2013 in Starkville, Mississippi.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m.  on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 @ West Memorial Chapel, Starkville, MS, with Rev. Rena Lanier, officiating.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 22, 2013 from 12-6pm at West Memorial Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery, Starkville,MS.

There's a good argument that could be made that the Southeastern Conference has one of the better quarterback pools this season.
The league has always been known to have good running backs, and subpar signal callers. This season some of the best players under center play in the SEC.

SPRD sees stretch run for softball season

The stretch run for the Starkville Parks and Recreation softball season is taking place.
It won't be long before thoughts turn from softball to football.
Regular season and tournament softball is expected to continue through mid August, then the flag football season starts Sept. 16.

Joan Wilson has made her mark in Starkville by trying to help preserve the ones others have left behind.

Wilson, a longtime president of the Museum Board, was instrumental in making the Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum what it is today.

State sales tax holiday this weekend

July 22, 2013

Mississippi will suspend sales tax for two days this weekend.

According to the Mississippi Department of Revenue, sales tax will not be charged on clothing or footwear as long as the sales price of a single item is less than $100.

The sales tax holiday will run 12:01 a.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
