Hope you haven't got tired of the sport because there's more of it on the way.
There is always baseball news coming out of this town, but lately, it has really started to pick up.
For Starkville as it's sure to be in other communities, baseball doesn't end when the schools get out for summer vacation.

SPRD staff gets facility set for tournament

The fields at the Starkville Sportsplex are ready for the demand that over 50 youth United States Speciality Sports Association baseball teams will present this week.
With the USSSA State Tournament taking place, Starkville Park and Recreation direction Herman Peters said his staff has already been at work trying to get the facilities in as good a shape as possible.

Blood drives to fill higher demand in summertime

Summertime tends to be the toughest time to obtain blood donations, according to Rosalin Johnson with United Blood Services, but it’s the time where blood is in most demand.

SSD to hold budget hearing

Starkville School District will hear comments and concerns from the public regarding its proposed 2013-14 budget at a public hearing at 6 p.m. today at the Greensboro Center.

Each attendee will be given a three-minute limit for addressing the board.

Maben resolves election issue

Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann’s office listed Maben on Friday among 47 Mississippi cities that had not turned in their certifications of election results by the June 11 deadline, but the office confirmed Monday that Maben had turned in results and averted court intervention.

Aldermen to hear Parks audit report

The last meeting of the term for the outgoing Starkville Board of Aldermen promises to be a heavy one. Among the items for consideration, City Clerk Taylor Adams will give a report outlining the financial health and viability of the City Parks Commission within the current budget.

Gaskin files lawsuit in Ward 4 primary

Six weeks after initial results from the Ward 4 Democratic primary designated Jason Walker victorious in claiming the alderman’s seat over challenger John Gaskin by a mere four votes, the matter is finding its way to circuit court.

Trey Porter productive: Senior delivers for MSU win

June 18, 2013

OMAHA, Neb. – Trey Porter hasn't been a big part of the Mississippi State offense in the last few weeks.
That all changed Monday night.
The senior singled to right field in the eighth inning to drive home two runs as the No. 7 Bulldogs beat the No. 8 Indiana Hoosiers 5-4 at TD Ameritrade in the College World Series.

Pirtle keeps finding base for Bulldogs

OMAHA, Neb. – Brett Pirtle somehow finds a way to reach base safely in just about every Mississippi State game.
The junior second baseman reached on a fielder's choice in the first inning in a 5-4 Bulldog victory over Indiana Monday night at the TD Ameritrade in the College World Series.
With the fielder's choice, the Tyler, Texas native has reached base safely in his last 41 games.

Hardy Tingle

Hardy Tingle passed away Friday, June 14, 2013, at Shands Hospital University of Florida after a long struggle with heart failure. He was born in Quitman, Mississippi November 25, 1946. He was preceded in death by his father, Fletcher W. Tingle.
